Inclusion
Over the last decade, inclusion efforts have increased the representation efforts of the underrepresented in organizational life. Yet we are seeing troubling signs that progress has been halted due to backlash regarding diversity, equity and inclusion policy and practice. In response to these disheartening trends, we seek to push past the negativity to showcase the means by which barriers become bridges.
We aim to uplift and celebrate diverse voices, including communities of color, women and formally incarcerated individuals, with a focus on the unique strategies underrepresented individuals demonstrate in their organizational journeys. We ask such questions as: How do the unique skills and perspectives demonstrated and contributed by women of color impact leadership and governance roles? How do Latinos experience the leadership journey? How do gender and religiosity relate to motivation to lead and leadership attainment, and what leverage points could be utilized to increase leadership attainment? How does engagement in business networks influence the success of Black women-owned businesses? How can coaching programs within prisons foster unique skill sets and societal reentry success for returning citizens?
Our work in this domain examines race, gender, ethnicity, religiosity and other social categories through an intersectional lens, showcasing different lived experiences. We explore phenomenon such as interactions on corporate boards, leadership attainment, work-life policies, entrepreneurship, personal transformation, and coaching. Our studies bring to light how overlapping identities affect opportunities and provide strategies to address these complexities.
Through this celebration of individuals, we aim to encourage more organizations to include unique voices and skills at the organizational table. These various perspectives and dimensions can provide rich insight into creating a better world and building bridges to overcome barriers.
